About

Hey there! I’m Kristin, and I ___(do the thing)___.

You read that right. There is a giant fill-in-the-blank style hole in that sentence. Why? Because despite being a writer and copy editor, I have writing blocks too.

I teach people who struggle with writing how to put their story into words. I also often tell people to take all of the English language, its grammar and writing rules that they learned in grade school and chuck them out the window. Hard.

(Which is ironic, because I’m also a high school English teacher.)

With quite a number of years studying English literature, composition, digital media practices, teaching (and Japanese) at Hogwarts the University of Pittsburgh and Chatham University, and owner of some very expensive pieces of paper, I’ve…

  • taught classes in writing, composition, research and literary analysis
  • developed resumes
  • edited college application essays
  • tutored students in foreign languages
  • reviewed and edited manuscripts
  • hosted panels & workshops
  • presented at conferences
  • have attempted to translate modern teenager-speak (and subsequently lost my mind)
  • and so much more

When I’m not writing or teaching, I can typically be found forming emotional attachments to fictional characters (I love to read!), slaying Darkspawn, or dissecting the literary merits of Batman with my Pittsburgh English Nerd posse*.

Nah, just kidding. I’m probably napping with my cat, Reiley, or getting sucked into the deep dark abyss that is Tumblr. Other things I adore? Being cozy, chai tea, everything about autumn, mermaids, and Star Wars.

Get In Touch

Let’s face it, I’m on the Internet a lot. To the point where I’m actually embarrassed when I fill out surveys that ask “How many hours a day do you spend in front of the computer?” The answer is a lot, okay, data collectors? Luckily for you, that means that you can get ahold of me most easily by sending a short and sweet Tweet (@mylifeasateacup) or shooting me an email at [email protected] I respond pretty quickly (once you can pry me away from Supernatural gifs and cat videos.)
