30 Days of Lists

I am a list junkie. If there were an AA for obsessive post-it note hoarding, list compiling, and checkbox checking, I would be the group's poster girl. I write lists in the margins of my notes when I start lagging in class. I start the day off with a purple sticky note. It's bad, in the most anally organized way possible.

So when I heard about 30 Days of Lists I completely geeked out.

Every day throughout March they will post a list prompt, running from a range of topics to get you writing and get your journalistic juices flowing! Journals are being made and shared via Flickr and the prompts are already up in one of their kits so you can get thinking today!
Not everyone can make a mini scrapbook every week or an art journal page every night. 30 Days of Lists is our encouragement and challenge to you that you CAN journal just something every day - even something as small as a list.

Every day through the month of March we will be posting a list prompt - anything from weekend goals to celebrity crushes. At the end of the 30 days you'll have a collection of entries creating a small snapshot of your life right now.

Only 5-10 minutes per day are really needed (or even less!). While you're waiting for someone, or when you're the passenger in the car. Download one of our kits so you have the topics ahead of time and just write.

There's no wrong way to do this and if you don't like a prompt on a certain day, just change it.

30 Days of Lists is a collaboration between Kam of Campfire ChicAmy of Lemon and Raspberry and Justine of A New Beginning.
You can follow the project via Twitter with the hashtag is #30lists

I am so excited to make more lists!

Snacking, Veggies, and Eating Healthy

I guess I should refine my goal wording here: Incorporate veggies into 2 of 3 meals a day (I don't really do vegetables for breakfast; been there, tried that), be it lunch/dinner or a meal and a snack.

It seemed fitting, with my healthy eating boot-camp endeavor, to tackle something that's already on my list of things to do. I've been eating salads for lunch (hello, yummy Asian sesame dressing!), making wraps to take with me (though I just can't kick the Parmesan-Ranch dressing on this one quite yet), steaming veggies with dinner nightly, and snacking on broccoli during the day. I definitely have some work to do before I make it a habit and something I crave, but I feel so much better just not reaching for some cookies.

♥ Raw veggies go great with hummus. Here I am thinking that raw vegetables equal either bland or doused in ranch dressing, but garlic hummus makes them taste delicious without feeling heavy. Plus, now I'm a walking talisman to ward off vampires.

♥ If you've never done the raw veggie thing, might I suggest starting with your favorite cooked vegetable.  I've eaten broccoli almost everyday since I was a kid and there's a reason for that;  I love it. It just seemed natural to start from there. I felt like I had more of a chance of being accepting of just one new thing rather than throwing a new raw taste in with a foreign vegetable too.

♥ They're the perfect little snack; Honestly, even hummus isn't even that messy, so it's super easy to toss a bag of vegetables in my purse and a ramekin of hummus and tote around with me. I'm prone to get hungry at the strangest of moments. And then there's this handy little lunch container for said snacks (for kids? pssssht, I snagged one for Boy for Valentine's Day lunches)

♥ Vegetables don't have to be difficult; Let's face it, coming home from a full day of class or work at nine o'clock at night doesn't put most people in the "I want to cook an elaborate meal"-mood. I've been keeping some vegetables one hand and whipping them up with some tofu in a stir fry for nights that I need something quick but filling. And even on nights when I do have something snazzy planned, if there's not vegetables in it and I'm not feeling terribly creative, a side of steamed broccoli is simple and satisfying.

How do you make vegetables more bearable?

Things I Love Thursday

( source )

♥ My phone made the strangest sound the other day and I finally realized it was my host mom trying to get ahold of me through Skype! I've had it up whenever I'm free to talk, hoping that our time differences will one day align, and they finally did. They truly are awesome people and I'm so glad I'm able to keep in touch with them. Host Mom (ママ) is so adorable xD It cracks me up. Hopefully there will be many more conversations to come.

♥ I'm onto Supernatural season 3. I'm officially addicted. There's soul-selling, Se7en references, daddy-issues and Bela Lugosi aliases. Not to mention my mythological/supernatural creature geek-background. I've been raving about this since I started season 1. And will be continuing to do so, I'm sure. But basically this season is all Sam and Dean in a continuous loop of "You're my brother and I'd do anything to save youuuuu!!!" angst. And smart-ass comments. The way to my heart.

♥ I'm a terrible Pittsburgher - I didn't watch the Superbowl. Instead I went and took advantage of a near empty Super Panda buffet and stuffed my face full of yummy rice and sushi and am now rejoicing that, though it is sad we lost (I do love my city), my bus stop was not uprooted in a riot this year (2008 - this was not the case. Who riots when someone wins? Who? I don't get it)
