When Megan of The Nerd Nest invited me to write a post for their ‘Spread the Nerd’ series, I was elated. Share one of my geek loves – how could I say no!?

Choosing a topic was difficult enough; there are plenty of interests of mine that I’m passionate about, and most of them fall in the ‘geeky’ category. I could surely talk about video games or comics, or Japan, or languages, or any number of things. But after some thought, I knew I had to talk about what I love the most – literature.

Literary criticism has been a huge part of my life, and the skills I learned as an English major I find that I still draw upon on a fairly regular basis. The Beginner’s Guide to Literary Criticism is meant to be a guide for those who would like to take their study of literature to the next level, students who want a leg up on writing at the college level, and those who want some insight into what a literature major really does.

I had a blast writing this post, and I’m sure there are more literary criticism pointers to come!
