aubade n. [ō-ˈbäd]: a morning love song; a song or poem of lovers parting at dawn (via)

It seemed silly to write a sentence using this word since it’s so specific, but it’s a fascinating literary style I had never heard of before! In honor of Valentine’s Day coming up later this week, it seemed a fitting style to share.

Here’s a bit more on the aubade thanks to the ever-knowledgeable Wikipedia (it’s not terribly long. And my ears perked up at the mention of John Donne).

For the Love of a Linguaphile is a weekly series celebrating the snazzy words we encounter, from those found in great literary works, to those pesky words that keep popping up in everyday life. Hopefully you can incorporate a new word into your vocabulary, or even share one of your favorite words!
